February 2012    News For Dr Campbell And Dr Ward's Patients

Following Dr Campbell's reduction to half time working at Whitby Group Practice, Dr Alyson Turner has now completed her time with us as locum for Dr Campbell. In order to ensure that Dr Campbell's patients can continue to see a named GP who is 'their doctor', Dr Tom Ward and Dr George Campbell are sharing their patient lists. This means that Dr Campbell's patients and Doctor Ward's patients can book appointments with either doctor.

February 2012    Computer Upgrade

The practice computer system will be undergoing essential maintenance on the weekend beginning Friday 17th February which will mean our computers will be down on those days.

This will affect our patients in the following ways;-

  1. We will continue to open during our normal surgery hours and our phone system will not be affected

  2. All appointments on Friday 17th February 2012 (Doctor and Nurse) will need to be booked prior to that date, in order that we can print off your medical records

  3. On Friday 17th February 2012 you will not be able to book an appointment on the day, unless it is an emergency

  4. On Friday 17th February 2012 you will not be able to book appointments in advance for the following week and beyond, because we will not have access to our appointments booking system

  5. Any prescriptions ordered on Friday 17th February 2012 will not be ready for collection until after 3pm on Tuesday 21st February 2012

  6. You will not be able to use EMIS Access for online appointment booking or prescription ordering on Friday February 17th 2012 or Saturday February 18th 2012

  7. We will have to update everyone's medical records with any information from Friday 17th February 2012 during the following week, so it is likely that there will be some minor delays to our usual services during that week

We are grateful to you for your understanding at this time and would like to reassure you that we will do our best to help if you have an urgent problem on Friday 17th February 2012

September 2011    Patient Participation Group

Would you like to have a say about the services provided by Whitby Group Practice?

The Practice is trying to establish a group of patients who are willing to contribute some of their time to the development of the Practice and its health services.

For further details please click here to go to our Patient Participation Group page.

September 2011    Dr Campbell Goes Half Time

On 5th September Dr Campbell reduced his practice commitment from full time to half time. Dr Alyson Turner has been appointed as locum to see Dr Campbell's patients for the part of the week when he is no longer available. Dr Turner was previously a trainee at the practice and we feel confident that our patients will receive excellent care from her. We trust that Dr Campbell's patients will understand that his availability is reduced and will feel free to make appointments to consult Dr Turner.

July 2011    Website Relaunched

We have given our website a makeover to make navigation easier. Everything from the previous website should still be available. The website will display best if you use the latest version of your internet browser (some elements don't display properly on older versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer; they seem okay with Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari).

July 2011    Retirement Of Dr Chadwick

Dr Chadwick retired from Whitby Group Practice on 2nd July 2011

He joined the practice in 1980 and was passionate about training. He was one of the first GPs in the country to achieve membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners by assessment of practice and was presented with an award from the college for his work on equality and diversity among GP specialist trainees. He will contine as Scarborough GP Vocational Training Scheme Program Director.

The practice wishes him all the best in his retirement

June 2011    Appointment Of New Partners

Dr Tara Hazledine joined the practice in July 2011

Dr Tom Ward joins the practice in August 2011

May 2011    Flu Vaccination Clinic Dates For 2011

We are offering flu clinics on the following Saturdays for all patients in at-risk categories;-

The flu vaccination clinics were held on the last 2 Saturdays in October and the first 2 Saturdays in November. The practice was delighted with the response from the large number of patients who came to the clinics.

If you did not manage to get your flu vaccine, and you are in an at-risk category (click on the underlined hyperlink above) then please contact the surgery to get your 2011 flu jab.

Patient Survey 2010

The results of our recent patient survey have been published at http://www.gp-patient.co.uk/ and can also be downloaded here:-

The practice has reflected on the results and what steps we can take to improve the patient experience.

However, we are disappointed with some of the results because we know that access to our practice is better than the survey suggests. For example, any patient who needs to see a doctor can see one if necessary the same day, yet the survey says only 81% of patients could see a doctor within 48 hours.

The department of health requires that these surveys are completed and the results affect practices' quality payments and, therefore, the amount available to spend on patient care. We are grateful  to our patients who have completed the questionairres and if you are contacted in the future to complete a survey we would be pleased if you would carefully consider all your responses.
