Changes to medical cover at Whitby Hospital effective November
2004
 |
The full range of services outlined above is provided by
partners during the in-hours period. |
 |
When local doctors were responsible for their own GP out of
hours (that is, until the end of October 2004) we were able to cover the
hospital around the clock, because we had to be available for GP problems
anyway. |
 |
Since the
PCT took over responsibility
for
out of hours GP services this is no longer possible, but we have
negotiated with the
Scarborough General Hospital Acute Trust
to maintain medical (doctor) cover until 10pm weekday nights and weekend and
public holiday mornings. Outside these hours the hospital is nurse led with
emergency cover from
Primecare. This service is less
than what we were previously able to provide, but has ensured that there
is a service in Whitby, unlike a number of other areas in the country
where community hospitals have faced closure following PCTs taking over
responsibility for out of hours services. |
